    Indigenous high school students in Rockingham, Kwinana and Mandurah will benefit from a $50.7 million national program to prepare them for jobs.

    Local member of Federal Parliament Gary Gray said the federal funding would allow Indigenous students in Years 11 and 12 to complete school-based traineeships designed to help them create pathways to employment.

    For 20-year-old Rhiannon Garnham of Rockingham the recent Jobs and Skills Expo proved a turning point in her search for employment.

    Ms Garnham attended the Kwinana Expo along with thousands of other job-seekers and was successful in gaining a job with a local government recruitment agency.

    Today, the following statement was made in the House of Representatives by the Member for Brand, Gary Gray, on Kwinana’s elevation to the status of a city:

    Mr GRAY (BrandSpecial Minister of State and Minister for the Public Service and Integrity) (10:09):  I rise today to speak about the locality of Kwinana and its recent qualification as a city in the 2011 census. Kwinana is a township in the northern part of my electorate, in the southern metropolitan area of Perth, a city now of 30,000 people.
