Ways our strong economy is working for everyday people

New Schoolkids Bonus

A new Schoolkids Bonus cash payment will be automatically deposited into the bank accounts of more than 10,000 local families with kids in school to help make ends meet.

Increased Superannuation

We’re using Australia’s mining boom to help provide a boost to the superannuation of 47,000 workers in our local community.

Small business instant tax write off

More than 11,000 local small businesses will benefit from a major new tax break from 1 July 2012. The $6,500 instant asset write-off recognises that not every small business is in the fast lane of the mining boom.

New $600 increases to family payments

More than 13,000 local families will receive an increase of up to $600 in their Family Tax Benefit Part A payments from July 1 next year.

Childcare Rebate

We’re helping parents out with the cost of childcare by providing a 50% rebate on all approved out-of-pocket child care expenses, up to a maximum of $7,500 per child per year.

Extra Money to help with bills

We’re delivering vital assistance to help with the cost of living to 8,555 local young people, single parents and the unemployed currently receiving allowances by providing cash payments to help meet the costs of essential services like electricity, gas and water.

Pricing Carbon

Prime Minister Pricing carbon is the right thing to do, it is an essential economic reform. Australians are the biggest polluters per capita in the developed world. Our climate is changing - we need to reduce carbon pollution now. If we delay pricing carbon now, we risk losing the jobs of the future and threaten our long term prosperity. This is the best way to stop businesses polluting and get them to invest in clean energy. Now is our time to build a clean energy future.

Julia Gillard
Prime Minister of Australia

BUILDING AUSTRALIA’S CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE

The Gillard Labor Government is taking action to tackle climate change by putting a price on pollution and assisting business and households transition to a clean energy future.

The carbon price is not a tax on households — around 500 of the biggest polluters in Australia will be required to pay for their pollution under the carbon pricing mechanism.

Every dollar raised will go to support jobs, households and to invest in clean energy and climate change programs.

Nine out of 10 households will receive assistance through a combination of tax cuts, higher family payments and increases in pensions and benefits.

On average, prices will rise by $9.90 per week for households but Labor has made sure they will get $10.10 per week in assistance.

More than 40,900 people in Rockingham, Kwinana and Mandurah will receive household assistance through payments and even more local people will benefit from tax cuts.
